I don't think the shorts "are right" because the price has gone down so severely. I think the shirts create and maintain the trading patterns that result in the price going down. They aren't brilliant analysts that swoop in when they feel a stock is going to go through a down trend.
What they are is brilliant manipulators good at picking stock that are vulnerable and then exploiting that stock and forcing the price down.
