goes back far longer and deeper than that tarvie. if we only look at the anglosphere countries we can see that historically those that got ahead were where both partners worked. where wages are much worse than in the anglosphere its necessary for everyone to earn some money every day, even the kids. and it was the same in Victorian times.
it was only when unregulated industry was forced to pay real wages by unions that a single wage household was ever possible.
but I agree "immigration and house creation" were the failings of the Abbott to Morrison period which created much strife in the economy.
