Australia would have to ‘cooperate’ with ICC investigation: Former ICC prosecutor
May 21, 2024 - 3:29PMFormer ICC prosecutor Regina Weiss says Australia would have to “cooperate” with the ICC in its investigation of Israel and Hamas as it would be “quite problematic” to not follow international law.
The ICC is seeking arrest warrants for three leaders of Hamas, as well as Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Defence Minister.
“[Australia] has obligations under the Rome Statute relating to cooperation … Australia, as a member state, has to cooperate with investigations and prosecutions,” Ms Weiss told Sky News Australia.
“To not follow international law, that would be probably quite problematic for Australia.”
