if such a draft were for civil "defence" I wouldn't object, but for serving in a hot fight? No way. young people should not be sent to a war without their voluntary desire to fight.
such a call up should be focused on reparation labour following civil disasters and assisting with community projects, including much training and education. imo this would provide the sense of purpose needed for many disaffected youth to begin to understand that the country is a community and so give a brand scar onto antisocial behaviour. I can think of a few who would benefit from my own little town.
yes I certainly doo remember the draft. I had nightmares about being called up for several years. my brother missed out by a whisker, my date too wasn't called.
