Your logic is flawed. Wealthy individuals have investments go right and go wrong. Just because you can't seem to imagine a world were Fred loses doesn't mean the chip will work. It clearly doesn't work and most likely never will. It seems you find solace in the fact that you'll only lose if Fred loses. This is a terrible investment strategy.
