Depends on what you mean by buy in large. You can increase your holding in a company to under 20% on market but after that the creep provisions in the corps act kick in and you can only add 3% every 6 months or make a takeover offer.
if someone wants a big slice under 20% straight away they might approach the largest shareholder for an off market transaction or even the company directly to issue shares.
