That is my understanding also. Energy density is critical if the thing carrying the battery has to move.
Na will definitely have a role to play in static applications (e.g. Power grid batteries), however, at present, the power to weight ratio makes Na EV applications impractical outside of a metropolis.
Lithium is here for quite a while.
