Normally people work and save. they then decide what to do with those savings eg invest in CDU or BHP etc When governments tax you they in effect take the job of investing away from the citizen. They decide what to do with my savings. Sometimes the projects the government invests in actually produce something productive eg schools provide educated workers, police protect property at a reasonable cost, the abc informs us for something like 20cents a day and sometimes the government just burn the money raised in stupid schemes eg the $900 Harvey Norman gift voucher scheme and pink batts. watch this video of milton Friedman. He explains my position very well here What he is saying is if money is going to spent MAKE SURE PEOPLE GET VALUE FOR THEIR MONEY. simple Most Labor schemes do not produce any substantial wealth or raise productivity. They are for the most part are vote buying exercises. Take the NBN, there is no evidence that the amount of money spent -$43bn- will increase productivity to anything like what would expect from such a spend. That sort of money would be much better spent on better roads, water infrastructure or some other useful project. The only people who will benefit from the NBN are computer geeks and porn addicts. In the end all it will mean is people will have an extra tv set. Hey, I don't want another one. I have got a massive flat screen digital tv already. the NBN is a complete waste of money. It is an absolute disgrace that the filthy unionists in the Labor party are wasting our savings on a vote buying exercise. Of course the poor deluded fools want the NBN think that they are getting something for nothing. "I mean man, if it comes from the government, it must free, right?" How wrong they are.
