Firstly, they're complaining that the price of new EVs is falling, errrhhh yeah, dahhh,
that's what we want. You want EV prices to fall so they
become more affordable to everyday consumers. If they're more affordable, then more people can buy them. More EVs mean more batteries need to be recycled.
Did the TV bubble burst when the first flat-screen TV fell from $10K down to $1K? I remember when the first plasma flatscreen TVs hit the shelves, they were around $10K or higher & all you could do with them was watch free-to-air. Nowadays, you can pick up a 4K flat screen for under $1K capable of streaming, gaming & surfing the net. The same thing with mobile phones, the first one cost around US$4K & all you could do is make an expensive phone call. Nowadays, a new Samsung might cost you AUD$1500, but it's basically a mini-computer, capable of making payments, surfing the net, emailing, text messaging & phone calls. Has the mobile phone bubble burst because the price fell?
Secondly, many EVs have regenerative braking, meaning, the forward momentum of the car is used to turn the electric motor to slow the car down & send energy back into the battery,
making the car more efficient & in most cases, no brake pads are used.
Thirdly, rubber is a natural product.
Do we not use paper straws & wooden utensils at takeaway restaurants now? How exactly are natural products bad for the environment if it's sustainably sourced?
Fourthly, since when are cars investments? Everyone knows the second you drive a car off the lot it falls in value. That's car sales 101.
Fifthly, I think anyone with a teenage son or daughter would enjoy a second-hand EV. A lot of my school friends back in the day when they bought their first car in the 90's drove around in 1976 VW Golfs, Beetles or a Datsun 180B, great first cars!
Sixthly,
you could fill your entire roof with solar panels & power your whole house &
charge your EV at home for free, using the sun.
Show me an ICE vehicle that can source free petrol.
Lastly, 27% of the market? That's a lot of EVs on the road!!
