Philosophical confabulation aside, I suggest your strategy for minimising volatility risk by not holding stock is extreme. Volatility in the stock market and in the SP is part and parcel of investing/trading which you shouldn't be afraid of. In fact, many of us in the community to which you refer use volatility as an opportunity. I certainly have. It could be argued volatility often leads to mispricing which presents great opportunities to participate in the market rather than sit on the sidelines without hodling stocks for fear of remote events that are more a figment of the imagination rather than based on any substantiated objective data..
