"Stazi like regime"? you mean the soviet style secret police? or the Nazi/Polish conspirators who dobbed in their neighbours for a few zloty and relative safety?
a ward I once worked in for demented men, we had one Stasi community spy, and another man who had been the victim of the Stasi. each was terrified of the other.
with this in mind I think you've achieved a Godwin award for extreme and false equivalence. mind you it took me 10 minutes to find "Godwin" as the fitting word due to my increasing demented difficulty finding the right word ---==> Dementia after all those years working in dementia wards... I hope I dement like old Earl whose face would light up the whole ward whenever children came with visitors. he was the only really truly dementia man I ever met.
imo it doesn't matter what side we take, if we ignore the facts we can only ever be wrong.
