Hi @Lapdog, as an opponent of pointless consumerism I completely agree with your decision to hold off - especially since your cars are still low mileage.

Our own situation is different - my wife's car is starting to have parts fail - we've already had to shell out almost a thousand $$$ to fix a coolant problem this year, so your comment regarding increased operating costs is well made. EVs don't have engine coolant for a start.

In a couple of years time I suspect the 1000 km range cars will start to become commonplace in Australia (they already exist in China) and the EV charging station situation will be less of an issue. With that kind of range you will likely charge at home well over 90% of the time.

Having said that, In the past 6 months I've rented and driven EVs in both regional Victoria and regional Tasmania and never had a problem with charging. Admittedly we don't tend to travel in peak periods. You should download the plug share app and check out charging station availability in your region.
