Bakhmut wasn't ever encircled .....it was a painfully slow and costly series of frontal attacks followed by street fighting - block by block .

Now a year later russia haven't taken Chasiv Yar 7km away .....haven't even forced all the UAF troops across the river yet .....that one though , they are trying to encircle or at least outflank from the south


though not sure how that related to my post ......Otcheretyne is the bright spot on the whole front for russia .....but it is slow
it started partly by virtue of UAF error and partly through lack of resources and at this stage UAF haven't stopped the momentum .
but while it has potential to be strategic .....it isn't yet ....ground is too small* .....and personally I think momentum will be stopped there too soon .....but we'll see
