Housing prices started to rocket under Howard's policy of treating real estate as any other investment, negative gearing and CGT discount. It coupled with competitive interest rates from new non bank lenders, the Olympics boom and falling construction costs. Gutting university funding and allowing full fee paying overseas students to fill the gaps and corporatise education has caused excessive demand for accomodations in some areas, but that was also a Howard legacy.
Anyway, migrants tend to vote conservative. No ballot stuffing or great replacement BS.
