This is the first time I have seen the importance of the 2014 deadline emphasised with the almost cetain loss of lease if it is not met. This suggests that if Shell does not accomodate Nexus re. time extension then both companies will lose. I think Shell are sensible and will likely agree to the obvious win/win option.
