They have been talking about this for over 30 years. I remember as a student worrying about this and expecting it to occur at any moment. Seems to be as close to tipping as it was 30 years ago, but a new generation of scientists have rediscovered it and are making it fashionable again. I am sure it will happen, but not in my lifetime or your lifetime and we have as much hope of stopping it as we have of turning the tides. But I am sure some governments or the UN will find a way for us to pay to stop it happening.
