Not going to bother right now with the links because you are without doubt the greatest spreader of misinformation on HotCopper.
However a real life experience follows.
The pv solar panels on this roof have failed after 14 years, and I could post the report from yesterdays inspection but that would identify me. The first inverter failed after 6 years and was replaced at a cost of $2,500.
The inverter still has a couple of years left on the warranty. I am waiting to find out IF I can simply replace the panels and at what cost.
Most likely I will have to by a whole new system and without the huge subsidies that are provided with the first installation, and with a seven cent feed in tariff it probably won't stack up financially.
Fundamentally without the subsidies ruinables just don't cut it.
Simple fact.
