AUSTRAC appointed an external auditor to Afterpay to examine its compliance with the AML/CTF Act, then received a report in October 2020, after which AUSTRAC decided to take no further regulatoy action due to Afterpay having uplifted its AML/CTF compliance framework and financial crime unit. It also completed all remediation to ensure compliance.
Being 4 years ago it is unlikely that any or many other BNPL organisations will risk further non compliance.
