I won’t say whether they can or can’t but what could very likely happen is they simply announce a new revision to compensate for the expiring options.
For example if DVPAAA or whatever the code is is expiring, they could simply introduce a new ‘version’ with a very slight tweak to the exercise conditions, which would essentially act as an ‘extension’.
