Regardless of whether the story was on 2GB, it is true, they have to make decisions based on the risk to the person returning home. It is inevitable that some, who were not in any threat of persecution originally, would now be threatened because of their attempt to flee the country. This is the problem, the act of illegally trying to enter Autralia, turns them from a non refugee to a bonafide refugee under the laws.

Only one way to stop this is to take away the incentive that drives the smuggler trade.
