A guess. But having worked with many tech and engineering organizations often tech development is incremental and builds on past work.
I would suggest that they already had the Yolo solution working and didn't want to invest (yet) in building a new solution.
Instead, they have reduced the workload on Yolo so that it can perform faster by being fed less useless images by filtering first using Akida.
In doing so they have achieved an Akida learning curve with less risk.
Just a thought.
