it is very very very clear that your 'engineering' degree was very very very lacking

Even a small system - say to power a house - can be off grid and have solar and wind and back up generator - diesel or petrol

each input can be measured accurately and the result seen over any chosen period - day, week, month, year

true comparisons on usage are very easy to display
