My family and I are making a move from Sydney to Hobart in the near future for family/lifestyle reasons. Going through job adverts and observations of the labour market in Tas has me a bit worried that my skills and experience (science) are a bit narrow and i will struggle to find something that befits skills and experience (and income requirements to service family and mortgage).
I have often thought about taking the plunge and buying into a franchise or small business. I don't mind a bit of hard work, even dirty work if its for my own business. There also seems to be a few sharks out there looking to prey on the unsuspecting novice punter.
I'd like to pick others brains about their experiences/recommendations/pitfalls/don't touch with a 10 ft pole/lessons learned etc.
The criteria is; 1.~$50 - 75k startup/buy in 2. Simple business plan - for novice business owner 3. Good future growth industry or niche market 4. 40-50 hr week 5. Net personal income average >$1k per week 6. Goods and services that can be quickly and easily learned
...or at least most of the above
I'd appreciate any views, experience, or wis dom on franchises and other small business opportunities.
