Hi Crowe,
Anyone wanting to take over Strike would do so before these plans come to fruition. They will not sit back and wait because it will cost them a lot more to take over the company once the peaking plant is up and running, and other plans come to fruition. And let's not forget large upside still remains in SE. Unlocking this potential will require significant capital, so will have to wait.
Which begs the question, why didn't the other Perth Basin operators think about doing this?
There are only three potential parties who could replicate this strategy- Beach, Mineral Resources, and Gina (at least that I can think of).
Beach is entirely focused on getting its own much-delayed gas plant up and running.
Gina cannot, because she is not the operator in WE.
And Mineral Resources have other plans, and are not interested (as far as I know) in becoming an electricity supplier.
Another explanation, at the risk of sounding like a fanboy, is that Strike is a nimble operator who has identified an opportunity overlooked by larger operators. Pursuing new opportunities requires effort and a growth mindset. Many other oil and gas companies in the same position would have just sat on their hands. This must be kept in mind by those who are quick to criticise SN and his team.
