Russia Ukraine war, page-226928

Confidential communication with people in Ukraine indicates that their understanding of "victory" is entirely dependent on their (or their loved ones') chances of ending up on the front lines.

The further a person is from the front (connections, status, money - it doesn't matter), the higher their victory threshold.

The more "proximate" they are to the front, the stronger the desire to stop everything right now. It can also be easily predicted that a knock on the door by a policeman, putting them in a life or death ultimatum, instantly lowers their victory threshold to "peace at any cost."

    This applies to civilians.

For the military, it's a different situation: there is fatigue, there is contempt for authorities and generals, no understanding of when they will be discharged, but hatred for the enemy and unwillingness to lose keep them going. At the same time, military personnel have no fantasies about the 1991 borders at all.

Which means that all the poll and survey results coming out of Ukraine, that show that majority of Ukrainians want to fight on - are bogus.
