Victoria has the old Hazelwood site and the Yallourn site where it is due to close in 2028 are already wired and could be brought online very quickly, the gas is available nearby.
Gas is the only viable option for larger scale firming and was always touted as the way to the future, but Victorian Labor are more worried about losing seats to inner city Greens than the state experiencing blackouts and business closing and moving interstate.
