The Chinese are clever, very clever, and have outwitted the west in this area every time. They are playing a variation on slowly slowly catching a monkey, achieving the result they want with the gradual control/squeeze/block on REE's one way or another. They could choose to increase prices, halt, or tariff exports simply by claiming they don't have enough for their own domestic requirements or it's a required defence necessity. It'll be done in the least non confrontational way, but having the same end result, restriction of the supply they fully control. They've done this previously, let's not forget, and they'll pick their moment well.

Could be Tiawan threat or invasion or Trump winning or any other event perceived or otherwise would do. They really need no reason to play this card.

Regarding the UK election, the newly formed incoming labour huge majority IMO will support green projects far more than the current government and also be far more in tune with EU net zero driven policies.
