re Indonesia, hope so, but I'm skeptical - the SE Asian archipelago nations seem keen to urbanise at any cost. Nature represents historical poverty, technology is comfort and power. Environmental awareness grows generations later.
Just look at the 'agricultural' land clearing efforts by the Indonesian state to re-settle urbanites on the tropical fringes as gentlemen farmers. A catastrophe of rationalist monoculture ending in huge wildfires:
