Chairwoman Gina Cass-Gottlieb said the ACCC has to protect consumers from unsafe products, with lithium-ion batteries blamed for a growing number of fires worldwide involving electric cars and e-scooters. ‘Lithium-ion battery recycling in Australia faces limitations because of a lack of feedstock, safety concerns and costs. By 2035, Australia could be generating 137,000 tonnes of lithium battery waste annually.
