I've got several American friends - they are all democrats -------- but, there is a vanilla flavour that runs through them all

it's that culture of 'big' 'power' 'excess' 'value money' they all grew up with the big yank tanks, they grew up subconsciously surrounded by a culture of consumerism - big cars, bigger houses are better, buy your asprins in big bottles of 1000 tablets,
big shopping trolleys, have cupboards chock full of shit, have 6 of something that you only need 1 of - things that last a lifetime - only to be dumped in 10 years and replaced with another set of 8

it's a big culture, a plastic culture, a culture of glitter a culture of pure waste, of pure abundance - like you just go to abundance field as long as you have abundant dollars and you pick big armfuls of abundant goods - take more than you need, there's lots

you just can't get away from cultural roots that are so deeply entwined

I've lived with people who are incredibly frugal, I've lived with people who are enormous wasters and destroyers of the planet

it's much harder for the wasters to become frugal than it is for the frugal to change to abundance and wasters if they come into money

it's a culture

some - grow into leaving possessions behind, wishing to ditch everything where possible and live as simply as possible - but, they are uncommon.

for Americans - if the cost of living - the usable free dollars come under stress - they WILL revert to their cheaper buy the new paint old fossil technology -

why? - because they are enculturated to new, to new paint, to the new smell, to go hard

if they can't afford to purchase an EV which does that - rather than wait - their culture drives them to buy what they can pay for now

tis a no wait culture

don’t disagree with anything you say but I probably would not be quite as strident as you - I lived for 35 years within 60 miles of the US border and travelled there regularly so have a bit of an idea about the place.

To get over the impediments to a rapid uptake of EV’s all impediments will have to be overcome including culture.

My view, which I believe is supported by most recent news and forecasts from governments and auto manufacturers is that the uptake is going to be no where near what was being forecast as recently as 12 months ago. Unless of course the zealots in power about the place subsidise EV purchases to the point where you can’t afford not to.
