NOVONIX announced it has been granted a patent for its all-dry, zero-waste cathode synthesis technology. This patent furthers the company’s position as a leading provider of innovative technologies serving the electric vehicle and energy storage sectors by utilizing its all-dry, zero-waste cathode processing to produce high-quality single-crystal NMC powders.

A recent Hatch engineering study suggested the unique all-dry, zero waste manufacturing method, which can be used across a wide range of manufacturing, could in the case of cathode manufacturing reduce capital costs by 30%, processing costs by 50% & power consumption by 25%

NVX has indicated prior that they had numerous patents pending. As a result, we expect more patent awards in coming months for the unique manufacturing method, which is owned by NVX under a research partnership with Dr Obrovac from Dalhousie University.

The key differentiating aspects of the proprietary all-dry, zero waste process method in the cathode manufacturing include:

* Improved thermal stability – Reduces and controls side reactions, which cause cracking at the cell level

* The flowsheet is simpler – Fewer steps reduces units opex and capex costs

* Low to zero reagents – Combined with no ammonia requirement removes a significant safety risk

* It enables waste material to be gathered and reprocessed into product particles lifting the yields to 100%.; and the

* The all-dry process uses almost zero water & practically eliminates waste by-product generation.
