As I mentioned above moats can break, some of the biggest builders for exammple have had their moats break in recent times and banks for that matter, itis just a metaphor, and either one sees some protection around it or they dont. I doubt there was any deep meaninigs and guarantees behind the origional posters post, just saying he looks for some sort of safety, and if I recall wasnt this stock specific. You seem to be taking the comment too literal rather than figuratively.
