Try bartering a 2000 year old rotten tomato, then try bartering a roman gold coin. I know which the merchant would rather have.
Gold tends to keep its value as its a finite resource (unlike Feit currency which is just paper backed by the country's reputation) that once minted is easy to transport and trade with and wont rot.
But personally prefer gold mining companies with good profit margins to the physical or ETFs.
