Hi Phillip_k,
I like your thinking. I was going through all the possible scenarios in my head last night and came up with exactly the same conclusion. Just extending that thought, you can imagine the degree to which BHP would be miffed by that potential development, given Twiggy's close ties and much better relationship with the Chinese already and the likely financial support that would be available to him to support that move.
Marius Kloppers is sitting on a pile of money that he has so far been unable to invest to grow BHP via acquisition, and now the Chinese have shown a renewed and serious interest in playing in his back yard. Expansion via acquisition by that 'upstart' Twiggy must be a particularly galling possibility for BHP. I hope so! Time for a bit of Karma to kick in and give the big boys with their 'fully utilised rail capacity' some pain.
