While rumours of private equity takeover are being whispered around, I doubt anyone would take over Telstra given the current state of legislation, competition and broadband politics. There is just too much uncertainty around Telstra's future. The only one who could takeover Telstra is the government because Telstra's destiny is in the government's hands (the government through ACCC controls what Telstra can charge for a substantial part of its products and services).

There is also the elephant in the room, with the Future Fund selling stock at the bottom, or at least the bottom that we mugs know for now. What else do they know that is not known to the market? I wonder if that question has been posed in parliament as I certainly would like my MP or Senator to ask it.
