Depends on the structure of the takeover.
Using BLD as an example, SGH originally made an all cash offer in 2021 and some people accepted this. They then came back again in 2024 and made a new part cash and part shares (in SVW) offer, most accepted this. Once they reached 90%, they then could forcibly acquire the outstanding balance (on the same offer terms) which occurred on 30/6/24 with about 5% of shares outstanding.
It really depends on who does the takeover and whether they can offer all cash or scrip.
BLD has now been delisted and is no longer on the ASX.
