While I respect your opinion I do not think you have considered that there are at least two primary ways in which research is conducted.

The first usually by institutes of learning such as universities and technical colleges which is purely academic. Someone either a student or staff member has an idea and they put together a grant proposal and if accepted they go to work. Commercialisation if it ever occurs is a by-product not a goal. If you doubt this just go and have a look at the incredibly esoteric thesis areas studied for the award of PHDs at universities.

The second type of research is commercially focused and conducted by such bodies as Tata Consulting Services and Fraunhofer Institute. They do not do any research just because it would be nice to know why something happens they are focused entirely on solving problems or finding solutions for the sole purpose of bringing a product to commercialisation.

The video I posted regarding the 3D solution using the Robodog is a perfect example of the solving of a problem which will have immediate commercial application.

Fraunhofer Institute in using the event based camera and Akida with Robodog to clearly solve a problem that will have commercial application. The fact that this demonstration went on to be entered in a competition and in fact won an Award suggests at least to me that Fraunhofer is on track to achieve what their customer Hyundai/Boston Dynamics are paying them to solve.

If I throw in my knowledge as to what Ericsson researchers proved about the ability of Akida technology to provide ZeroEnergy compute and ISL CEO Dr. Guerci's statements about Akida technology's ability to autonomously pilot military drones I become extremely confident that Fraunhofer will achieve all that their customer desires and this research project involving Akida will lead to commercial implementation at some stage.

I would also say this your comment that they are also unlikely to use a stock Robodog when they have a better version available to demonstrate with makes perfect sense. Indeed it might be argued that the fact the improved version won an award might be something that Fraunhofer would likely want to publicise to their customer when showing off their 3D solution.
