So what are some conclusions we can draw from these recommendations? Electric trucks are wider, heavier, and more expensive. They will require a hell of a lot of infrastructure that hasn't even started to be built. Groups like the ATA are lobbying the government to heavily subsidise their adoption while simultaneously calling for conventional trucks not to be penalised - probably because they will be necessary for quite a long time.
The weight issue could ultimately be quite significant in my opinion, because supporting a fully electric fleet would require many road and bridge upgrades. This would happen in stages, very gradually - presumably towards the end of each piece of infrastructure's useful lifetime.
