But they ain't going to put it into something that has only a small payoff.

They would need to justify to themselves that their is a high probability that the initial discovery of a mineralised area will be a huge world class deposit, that a major company may want to takeover sometime in the future.

Otherwise they wouldn't even bother to write a $10mil cheque.
