Good luck - the dog that we have is the direct result of Labor opposing its introduction, forcing the Libs to deal with the loopy Democrats - long since gone - in producing a compromised GST that includes the proviso that an increase has to be agreed by all parliaments Federal and States !!
Labor nevers mentions their opposition to the GST when they claim to be responsible for all recent economic reforms.
The organisation predicts that increasing the GST's weight in total tax revenues, which remains low by international standards, could also clear the way to simplify and reform state taxes, such as abolishing stamp duty. Broadening the base of the GST -- such as applying it to fresh food -- and raising the 10 per cent rate have been rejected by both sides of politics. But the OECD report warns that "considerable room remains for improving the quality and effectiveness of Australia's tax transfer system" and suggests GST reform is the key.
