''but I fear we are heading for trouble''

if you mean in power generation etc ----------- well, yes - but, it's been decades coming - as has been a hell of a lot more chooks coming home to roost -

    causes
    spectacular lack of vision
    do nothing conservative attitudes
get out of the way and let business do business - and they have
    total lack of nation thinking
a completely dud political system full of idiots who keep chanting 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' ----------- totally ignorant of the fact that it's been broken since day one

when it hits the wall - it hits the wall.

future ? totally unknown and not because it's always unknown - but, this time is very different - the factors - IMO

for Oz - badly designed foundations and totally unmaintained
    War looks to be coming
economies changing massively - they will be unrecognisable in the near future
machines - AI, quantum computing, robots, full automation

is there anyone breathing and with a brain that can see 20 years down the track? ----------- I think that if someone thinks that in 20 years they will be sitting in their same loungeroom just with a bit of updated tech and their money will come in as it has been and they'll waddle off to the shops as they have been doing all their lives and it's going to be mostly the same ---

if anyone thinks that - I believe that they are probably crazy or very very very dumb
