IMO the reason for Russia invading Georgia , Ukraine and to a lesser extent Moldova (Transnistra)was to simply prevent these 3 from joining NATO due to the US push for all 3 to join in order to contain Russia...ie: to have 1st strike Nuke advantage.
Russia is the chief Nuke threat to the USA particularly since Russia has developed its hyper-sonic delivery systems . US first strike advantage is all about knocking out Russian Nukes on the ground before Russia has had the opportunity/time to launch. That nowadays may be minutes; not hours.(remember the Minuteman missiles?)
At this stage due to this Ukrainian war, the Doomsday Clock is the closest ever to Midnight and for that reason alone all rational people/countries ought to be advocating peace rather than fueling war.
And we all know that a Nuke war would be devastating for humanity and the globe so therefore any ideology, however morally meritorious ,ought not be used to increase the Nuke Doomsday risk from its critical point today.
