Problem is that these things are not being determined by the population. Look at how the UK and French elections were totally subverted by the ruling parties to swing the election in the direction they wanted out of pure spite. Our own system is rigged enough but I wouldn't put it past them to pull a swifty if it looks like lib/lab were under threat.
