Caused by short sellers? Probably not.
Triggered by short sellers for profit? Probably.
Without their intervention I suspect the share price would have continued to rise until the quarterly sales were available, and then it would likely have happened unless the results were absolutely stellar. It's highly unlikely that whatever the sales numbers were, they would be able to live up to the valuation at the time.
