Balanced and reasonable anecdote, I think, with $12k being a figure representative of the median experience (even though your 15,000km would be meaningfully higher than the average vehicle usage0.

Old car with a market value of $8000 - $440 for comprehensive insurance
New car with market value of $53000 - $733 for comprehensive insurance
