Ex Westpac Broking customer here as well. The last time there was an outage, you couldn't contact them at all. Phone line was constantly busy, emails went unanswered. When I managed to log in, platform was glitchy. I remember placing a buy order in the morning, hitting confirm, only to not have it show up in the order log. OK I thought, something bugged out and I guess it didn't go through. Placed same order, same thing happened. No record or confirmation of any sort. Come back a little while later and suddenly both orders have appeared in the order log, and both went through!! Well sh*t I thought, I only have the money to pay for the first order, so I sold the 2nd order at a small loss. Emailed Westpac support in the following days about the problem, got a reply saying they're sorry for the inconvenience, they'll see what they can do, blah blah. That was the last I heard from them.
I don't regret ditching Westpac for my Aus share trading needs. Westpac brokerage fees were multiples of Selfwealth's. They pay interest on cash balances, but it's a pittance, like 1%-2% range, so basically nothing. Sparse stock research tools, so not much different from SW. I guess the point is, for those who constantly bag Selfwealth, they should be aware there's worse providers out there, who still happily remain in business after many years.
