''where is the alternative? without a suitable alternative the whole shebang relies on people getting out to vote against or for Trump..... nothing to do with the alternative/left candidate ad Biden has written himself off.''

well yes --------- it does depend on (assuming Trump gets to election day) --

a 'suitable alternative' -- clearly for people to get out and vote against Trump - they have to vote 'for' someone else

and that's the big question I guess ------------ who.

It seems to me that it's very unlikely that Biden will be on the ticket as Democrat nominee - there's too much opinion in the Dems now from too high a level -

they are all certain that Biden can't beat Trump - and hence if he can't beat Trump - then, there's no point in him being nominee - for old time's sake and love of Joe

so who? (and how the hell do they get them to the top of the list in the roll call?)

They should IMO - bethinking of 'who can beat Trump' - and my guess is that if Kamala became the nominee - that nowhere near as many people would vote for her - as say ------- (IF she ran) ------- Michelle Obama -

whilst she continues to say that she's not interested - probably over half of the voting population would be VERY interested if she ran - she is very popular.

But if she refuses to run - then the Democrats need someone who has got more pull than Kamala - but who has popularity and looks good and can sound great as well -----

    who is the question?

I don't think that Obama would cave in and run - but, IMO - if she did - that would be a seismic moment and I think Trump's odds would blow out instantly and the Democrats would probably firm to favourite - instantly

4 months is a long time.

Whilst the Democrat convention is planned for August 19 to 22. As far as I read there is a 'roll call' for nominee in August 1 and August 7, and unless Joe is gone by then - it's going to be very difficult for anyone else to be the nominee

that's very soon ---------- surely to heavens if they get Joe to pull the pin - they must have a plan for who they will put at the top of the list???

and as you say - it's got to be a 'suitable alternative' - someone who can put a huge dent in Trump, and fairly quickly
