We are quite a diverse crowd descended from just 8 people that was all that remained of humans about four and a half thousand years ago,
This is a small sample of the diversity.

The moral angle.
God destroyed just about all of his creation because he did not like the outcome of his own work.
It sounds like God was incompetent and immoral.
Unless...
there is a deeper meaning to the narrative which perhaps shouldn't be taken literally.
