After reading both sides of the argument you quickly get a picture that the nunavut government is dependant on mining to pay for things and wants a handout from the federal government to build more infrastructure up there. The federal government wants to do it now because of their own politics.
Some areas (mainly the ones with locals) are anti-mining and fair enough, would you want a mine in your backyard? However, AW1's tenements are not home to first nations tribes and so discussions would be very different surrounding any land planning agreements than what happened with mary river.
