I agree, but the thing not often talked about actually is far more concerning. Without getting too political, I have some Chilean friends who have educated me about what the country was like back in the Allende/Pinochet days and the way it was explained to me was that it might be 50 year old history now but the mindsets still exist in the country. Insane socialist ideas still seem acceptable to a chunk of the population so you have to worry not just about that but also a backlash from the other side who need only look over the border at Argentina to know they don't want that and would likely over-react.
Not exactly the most stable political situation, I know people make fun of USA politics but to a degree American politics is far more tame compared to South America. Chile might be the better jurisdiction these days but when the mindset still lurks around....
The silver lining is you won't just have your mine seized like in mali just yet, so it's not that bad
